Russian Designers Keep it Fresh
The Daily Type is a collective experiment in typography. The participants create new original typeface and share them on the site. The results are a beautiful mixture of art and type.
Russian design has always enjoyed a typographic element as displayed in the works by Russian avant-garde artist El Lissitzk. Lissitzk, along with most Russian artists in post-revolution U.S.S.R., combined his visual talent with his political commitment. Typography was a brilliant way of communicating artistically. Lissitzk’s innovative techniques in graphic design and typography influenced book and graphic design throughout the 20th century.
Alexander Rodchenko was another innovative Russian designer whose Constructivist style influenced graphics and typography. Rodchenko’s style has been copied by many artists, most recently by Scottish punk band Franz Ferdinand in their cover art.
